Delhi based Designer Asha Gupta is renowned for her bespoke Bridal Couture. Established in 1998, her Label asha gautam (earlier known as Vinayak Couture) has garnered much appreciation with a loyalclient base and has customized bridal wear for more than 6000 brides and her families. She is known for her Bridal lehengas, embroidered sarees and exclusive handloom sarees. A self-taught Indian designer, Asha with a strong passion for creativity and India’s rich tradition of designs and craftsmanship has earned a respectable name in the Indian fashion industry. Her love for Indian ethnic wear is quintessentially evident from her body of work. “Fashion is all about evolving, innovating and improvising yet keeping your signature style intact” says Asha gupta. In 2003 Asha was joined by her Son Designer Gautam Gupta, alumni from NIFT, Delhi. Sharing his mother’s dream to keep traditional Indian ethnic wear alive, Gautam took the brand forward by reinventing traditional weaves and experimenting with new textures. The label identified from its embrace of vibrant colors and Indian heritage manages to seamlessly appeal to contemporary aesthetics of today’s Indian woman. asha gautam endorses revival of vintage art and indigenous craftsmanship from across India. Asha and Gautam Gupta strive to associate with various creative weavers and craftsmen at the grass root level. Innovating and experimenting with handlooms such as Bhandanis, Chanderis, Banarasi sarees, Uppada sarees, Patolas to create a new design story. Apart from working with weavers of various clusters of India on handlooms they also keep on do lot of research on textures. So beginning from detailed embroideries such as Petit Point, Gara Parsi, Gota, Mukesh and Zardosi to using experimental materials such as raffia, yarns, jute dori and many more to create masterpieces in their Couture, Bridal and fusion wear collections. “We want each design to look like an Indian Couture statement and this motivates us to keep on working on those crafts which are timeless classics,” says Gautam Gupta.
