In the shadow of the Himalayas lies The Homestead, a place of peace and tranquility, situated in the heart of the Terai, 250 kms from Delhi, 70 kms from Nainital in the vicinity of Corbett National Park. A farm with orchards of luscious mangoes and litchies, the home of Bunny and Amu Puri, developed by Bunny's parents Inder and Sheila. They were keen gardeners and nature lovers and fell in love with the beauty of the place in
the Himalayan foothills and founded in 1952 what is now The Homestead at Corbett Country.
This area was then thick forest, grassland and swamp, teeming with wild life - tigers,
elephants and herds of deer. Slowly the land was cleared and farming began.
For almost 15 years, the pioneering days were spent living in mud huts with thatched
roofs and oil lamps. Life was fishing, shikar, campfires and gazing at the stars,
dreaming of what was beyond!
Today The Homestead, where Bunny and Amu live, is a comfortable modern
homestay in a beautiful garden with ancient trees and climbing creepers
ablaze with colour, a spacious abode which still has a cosy and relaxed ambience,
a magical quality where time simply disappears.
