Mauritius officially the Republic of Mauritius, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean about 2,000 kilometers off the southeast coast of the African continent. The people of Mauritius are multiethnic, multi-religious, multicultural and multilingual. Along with the other Mascarene Islands, Mauritius is known for its varied flora and fauna, with many species endemic to the island. The island is widely known as the only known home of the dodo, which, along with several other avian species, was made extinct by human activities relatively shortly after the island's settlement. Mauritius is the only country in Africa where Hinduism is the largest religion. The government uses English as its main language. It is a volcanic island of lagoons and palm-fringed beaches with coral reefs surrounding most of the coastline.

Mauritius is a densely populated island of around 1.2 million people. Mauritius is known as a plural society where all the ethnic groups present: Hindus, Muslims, Creoles, Chinese and Europeans live in peace and where all the ancestral cultures have been preserved. These features make the island a unique place in the world, and the Mauritians known for their tolerance and kindness towards all people.

Mauritius has earned the reputation of a top holiday destination, but only few of the island visitors know that Mauritius is one of the leading destinations in the world while referring to the large variety of the activities it offers in comparison to its size. When visiting Mauritius you are sure to benefit from an amazing selection of almost 200 activities, attractions and places of interest all waiting to be discovered. From more traditional museums, parks and reserves, to extreme activities, sea cruises, island trips and many more, you will find it all! So make sure to discover the real Mauritius to the fullest via the various fun and exciting activities it offers!

For the sporty set, there are a number of world-class golf courses to enjoy, as well as a host of water sports such as deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling and kite surfing to name a few.  Go trekking through the lush forest, or explore the nearby villages and markets on bicycle. The island offers a rich colonial history to be explored with fascinating local culture and a variety of exotic and colorful religious festivals. Hundreds of shopping centers sell locally made textiles, jewellery, sugar and local preserves. Visit the nature reserves where you can spot some of the native endangered species, both in the ocean and inland.
